Are You Ready for Heaven?

Heaven’s Question
Brad Holliman
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more…” — Philippians 1:9
This Sunday, Brad invited us to consider what may be the question that matters most in heaven. He encouraged us to spend time reading through Philippians this week and to let Paul’s prayer become our own: that our love would keep growing, deepening, and overflowing.
Looking at Romans 5:5 and 2 Corinthians 5:1–10, we were reminded that this life is temporary and that one day we will stand before the Lord. Brad shared insights from the book Imagine Heaven by John Burke, where many people who experienced near-death encounters described a powerful “life review,” almost like a cinematic replay of their lives with Jesus.
And in that moment, one simple question seemed to matter most:
Did you learn to love well while you were there?
Love, as described in the Spirit-Filled Life Bible, is an undefeatable benevolence and an unconquerable goodwill. It doesn’t depend on whether someone deserves it. It’s a choice we make, not a reaction to how others treat us. As 1 Corinthians 13:1–3 reminds us, without love, even the most impressive actions mean very little.
So how do we love God? Jesus gave the answer in Matthew 25:34–40: when we love and care for people, we are loving Him.
Paul often spoke about people this way, calling them his joy, his crown, and his boast in the day of Christ. It’s a powerful shift in perspective: people are not the enemy of our lives, they are our joy and our crown.
As we live with eternity in mind, we can keep asking ourselves the question that may echo in heaven one day:
Are we learning to love well?
