The Gifts of The Spirit

Pastor Kara Diaz

Hello Church Family!

In writing to his spiritual son Timothy, the Apostle Paul warned that in the last days, there would be dark, godless times when people were lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) He reminded Timothy and us today that we "wrestle not against people but against principalities and powers of darkness."

It is crucial that we are aware of this battle and know how to use the supernatural gifts that the Holy Spirit has deposited in each born-again believer. Pastor Kara stated, "It's not logical that if God lives in us we would have no power!"

Before Jesus went back to Heaven He sternly instructed His followers not to leave town and start their ministry until they were endued with the power of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:1, Paul says we should "not be ignorant of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been given to us." We have supernatural, spiritual gifts to aid Christ's body and empower us to share the gospel with this lost world.

1 Corinthians 12:4, 7 explains, "There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all…A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other."

The wonderful truth is that no one is left out. Every believer, without exception, has been given a powerful spiritual gift! This truth of your value should fill you with a sense of belonging and significance.

Many have been misled to believe that the gifts of the Spirit ceased with the Apostles. This false doctrine must be challenged and uprooted so that you can embrace the truth and allow good seeds to be planted in your heart.

This Sunday at Vida, we were challenged with a simple but powerful question: Are we merely Christians who know the Word, or are we actually participating in what we believe?

We can spend so much of our lives looking for the extraordinary that we miss the sacredness of the ordinary. We wait for the next season. The breakthrough. The opportunity. The relationship to change. The circumstances to improve. We imagine that when something finally shifts, then our real life will begin. But God is not only the God of where we're going. He is the God of right here and right now.

We are living in what many have called an epidemic of loneliness. Although we are more connected technologically than ever before, many people still lack deep, meaningful friendships. As the Church, one of our greatest distinguishing marks should be our ability to love one another. Jesus said the world would recognize His disciples by the way they love.

Healthy relationships don't happen by accident. They are built intentionally as we allow God to shape the way we love, encourage, and walk with one another. This week, Pastor Ben continued our Kingdom Relationships series by focusing on two foundational pillars: vision and faith.

Every relationship in our lives isn't meant to carry the same weight. Some are casual, others are seasonal, and a few become deep Kingdom relationships worth intentionally investing in. As Pastor Ben reminded us this Sunday, healthy Kingdom relationships don't happen by accident—they're built on self-control, responsibility, and truth.
