Why Do We Give?

Pastor Ben Diaz

"For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16 NLT

As we step into the Christmas season, there’s no better example of giving to follow than our Heavenly Father, who gave His Son, Jesus Christ, who willingly laid down His life for us. Pastor Ben’s message this past Sunday reminded us to live our lives in response to what God has given us.

Did you know that "giving" is the most talked-about topic in the Bible? Pastor shared, “God wants us to be a channel through which blessings flow, not a dam that keeps everything for ourselves.”

There’s a reason God said "it’s more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35)." While we all enjoy receiving gifts, giving is where the true blessings lie. Giving is not just an act of generosity; it’s an act of worship that demonstrates our trust in God. When we give, we cause thanksgiving in others and honor God.

Fear of lack can hold us back from giving, but when we know our Father and trust in His promise that "we will never lack," (Psalm 23:1) we can freely and cheerfully give. Pastor also encouraged us to give with wisdom and purpose. He said, “When God can trust you with your finances, knowing you will allow money to flow through you, then He’ll get more to you!”

Pastor reminded us that giving isn’t limited to finances alone. We give through being a friend, hospitality, serving in children’s church, discipling others—offering both our time and money.

He pointed out the powerful story of feeding the five thousand, where one little boy’s willingness to share his lunch sparked a miraculous multiplication!

This Christmas, instead of making a wish list, consider making a giving list. How can you be a part of a miracle in someone’s life this season? What a beautiful way to honor the One who gave everything for us. Click Here to watch Pastor's entire message.

As a congregation, we are stepping out in faith, believing God for $500K to pay off our church building within the next 18 months, and for $100K to build a school for our Kenya Orphanage Project. With God's blessings on our giving, there is no limit to what He can accomplish through us! Nothing is impossible when we trust in His provision.

This Sunday at Vida, we were challenged with a simple but powerful question: Are we merely Christians who know the Word, or are we actually participating in what we believe?

We can spend so much of our lives looking for the extraordinary that we miss the sacredness of the ordinary. We wait for the next season. The breakthrough. The opportunity. The relationship to change. The circumstances to improve. We imagine that when something finally shifts, then our real life will begin. But God is not only the God of where we're going. He is the God of right here and right now.

We are living in what many have called an epidemic of loneliness. Although we are more connected technologically than ever before, many people still lack deep, meaningful friendships. As the Church, one of our greatest distinguishing marks should be our ability to love one another. Jesus said the world would recognize His disciples by the way they love.

Healthy relationships don't happen by accident. They are built intentionally as we allow God to shape the way we love, encourage, and walk with one another. This week, Pastor Ben continued our Kingdom Relationships series by focusing on two foundational pillars: vision and faith.

Every relationship in our lives isn't meant to carry the same weight. Some are casual, others are seasonal, and a few become deep Kingdom relationships worth intentionally investing in. As Pastor Ben reminded us this Sunday, healthy Kingdom relationships don't happen by accident—they're built on self-control, responsibility, and truth.
