Why Hasn't The Truth Set You Free?
Do you know God personally?
It's a question worth slowing down to consider.
In a culture where information is abundant, it's possible to know a lot about God without actually knowing Him. We can quote Scriptures, attend church, listen to sermons, and participate in ministry activities, yet still miss the relationship God has always desired.

Knowing God and Making Him Known
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
What if the greatest goal of the Christian life is not simply believing in God, but truly knowing Him?
This Sunday, Pastor Ben launched a new series with a simple yet profound question:
Do you know God personally?
It's a question worth slowing down to consider.
In a culture where information is abundant, it's possible to know a lot about God without actually knowing Him. We can quote Scriptures, attend church, listen to sermons, and participate in ministry activities, yet still miss the relationship God has always desired.
More Than Religion
Jesus addressed this very issue in Matthew 7 when He spoke of people who had prophesied, performed miracles, and done many works in His name, yet heard the devastating words:
"I never knew you."
The problem wasn't their activity.
The problem was the absence of relationship.
Christianity has never been about checking religious boxes. God's invitation has always been personal. He desires intimacy, fellowship, and friendship with His people.
The goal is not merely to know facts about God.
The goal is to know God Himself.
Foundational Truths Matter
Pastor Ben reminded us of several foundational truths that anchor our faith.
Salvation is found only through Jesus Christ.
The Bible is God's Word and our ultimate source of truth.
The Holy Spirit is still active today, empowering believers, producing fruit, and distributing gifts just as He did in the early church.
These are not simply doctrines to affirm. They are realities that shape how we live and relate to God.
Most importantly, we are called not only to know Him, but also to make Him known.
A relationship with God was never intended to stop with us.
Jesus Is Perfect Theology
One of the most powerful statements from the message was this:
Jesus is perfect theology.
If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus.
We see His compassion.
His holiness.
His truth.
His mercy.
His love for people.
Everything Jesus revealed about the Father can be trusted completely.
The more we know Him, the more confidence we gain in His Word and His character.
Truth Must Become Personal
Many people read the Bible as information.
Jesus invites us to experience it as transformation.
When Jesus said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free," He wasn't talking about simply collecting facts.
The biblical idea of "knowing" goes far deeper.
It speaks of intimate relationship.
Freedom comes when God's truth becomes more than something we read. It becomes something we believe, embrace, and live from.
Truth that remains in our head informs us.
Truth that reaches our heart transforms us.
Renewing Our Minds
Pastor Ben challenged us to examine where our thinking may have been shaped more by culture than by Scripture.
Every day we are bombarded with messages competing for our attention and allegiance. The world offers its own definitions of truth, identity, success, purpose, and morality.
But Romans 12:2 calls believers to something different:
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Transformation begins when we allow God's Word to challenge, correct, and reshape the way we think.
Repentance is not simply feeling sorry for sin.
It is changing the way we think so that our lives align with God's truth.
Knowing Him and Making Him Know
As the message concluded, Pastor Ben called us to embrace both expectancy and urgency.
Expectancy because God is still moving, speaking, healing, saving, and transforming lives.
Urgency because there are people all around us who need to know Him.
The more deeply we know Christ, the more naturally we will share Him with others.
After all, Christianity is not merely about believing the right things.
It is about knowing the right Person.
And once we truly know Him, we cannot help but make Him known.
