Know Him So You Can Trust Him

Know Him So You Can Trust Him

“Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” — Psalm 9:10

One of the greatest invitations in Scripture is not simply to believe in God, but to know Him.

This Sunday, Pastor Ben reminded us that trust is not something we manufacture through effort. Trust grows naturally through relationship. The more we know God, the more we trust Him.

More Than Knowing About God

Many people know facts about God. They know Bible stories. They know church language. They may even be involved in ministry activities.

But Jesus makes a sobering statement in Matthew 7 when He says, “I never knew you.”

The issue was not activity. The issue was intimacy.

God's desire has never been merely for us to perform for Him. He wants relationship. He wants us to know Him personally.

How Do We Get to Know God?

Pastor Ben pointed to three ways we grow in our knowledge of God:

1. Know His Names

Throughout Scripture, God reveals His character through His names.

Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides.

Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals.

Jehovah Shalom, the Lord our peace.

Every name reveals another aspect of who He is.

2. Know His Word

God's Word is not simply information. It is revelation.

The more we immerse ourselves in Scripture, the more we begin to understand God's heart, His ways, and His promises.

3. Know His Deeds

Remembering what God has done strengthens our faith for what He will do.

Throughout the Bible, God's people repeatedly built memorials and shared testimonies so future generations would remember His faithfulness.

The Oil Cannot Be Borrowed

Pastor Ben contrasted Matthew 7 with the Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25.

The wise virgins had oil. The foolish virgins did not.

One of the most important lessons from the parable is that oil cannot be borrowed.

No one can live on someone else's relationship with God.

Not your spouse.
Not your parents.
Not your pastor.

Every believer must cultivate their own relationship with the Lord.

The question we were left with was simple:

How much oil do you have?

Faith Is One Thing. Trust Is Another.

In Genesis 22, Abraham had already demonstrated extraordinary faith. He had waited twenty years for the promised son.

But then God tested something deeper.

He tested Abraham's trust.

Would Abraham trust God's character even when God's instructions seemed difficult to understand?

Abraham obeyed immediately because he trusted completely.

It was on that mountain that God revealed Himself as Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides.

Obedience Flows From Trust

One of the strongest statements of the message was this:

"Obedience without trust is abuse."

God is not looking for reluctant compliance.

He is inviting us into relationship.

When we truly know Him, we trust Him.

When we trust Him, obedience becomes a natural response rather than a burdensome obligation.

The Invitation

The Christian life is not about collecting information about God.

It is about knowing Him.

Knowing His names.
Knowing His Word.
Knowing His faithfulness.

Because the more we know Him, the more we trust Him.

And the more we trust Him, the more confidently we can follow wherever He leads.

Do you know God personally? It's a question worth slowing down to consider. In a culture where information is abundant, it's possible to know a lot about God without actually knowing Him. We can quote Scriptures, attend church, listen to sermons, and participate in ministry activities, yet still miss the relationship God has always desired.

Clint went into detail about what the fire of the Holy Spirit is really for. Many people may think it is only about speaking in tongues, but it is so much more than that. He gave the illustration of carrying around your cell phone for a year, thinking you know everything it can do, and then suddenly someone shows you a feature you never knew existed. Clint showed us some additional features of the Holy Spirit!

This Sunday, Pastor Kara delivered a powerful message on the reality of two opposing kingdoms: the Kingdom of Light and the kingdom of darkness. Through a sweeping journey across Scripture, beginning in Genesis and continuing through the New Testament, she revealed God's heart for His people and the enemy's ongoing strategy to deceive them.

Beginning in Genesis, Pastor Ben revisited the story of Eve and the serpent's deception. He explained how the enemy convinced Eve to reach for something she already possessed. In many ways, that same lie continues today. Women are often pressured to believe they must prove their worth through status, achievement, or success, when God has already declared their value.

Islam Almost Killed Me

Born into Islam in Iran and trained to give his life for his faith, Mohamad shared how everything changed when a friend risked everything to tell him about Jesus. For the first time, he realized he didn’t have to earn acceptance through sacrifice, Jesus had already paid it all.
What’s Included in the Covenant:
Overabundance and Increase

At the center is a powerful truth: the great exchange includes provision. Jesus became poor so that we could step into the fullness of life God intended, not just spiritually, but in every area.
