You've Been Commissioned

You've Been Commissoned!

Pastor Ben Diaz

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19

Most of us can quote this familiar verse, but too often we assume it’s meant for pastors, evangelists, or the boldest among us. But as Pastor Ben reminded us—this commission isn’t just for a few. It’s for all of us.

He illustrated this with what’s known as the bystander syndrome. If someone were bleeding in the street and a hundred people were standing nearby, chances are no one would step in—each assuming someone else would. But if only a couple people were present, help would come faster.

In the same way—if we’d stop to help someone physically bleeding, why wouldn’t we offer eternal life to someone spiritually dying without Jesus?

Pastor shared this powerful truth: “The Church needs a revelation of hell—and an urgency to rescue those headed there.”

As John 3:17 says, “God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.” Our mission isn’t to judge or condemn—but to share the good news that their sins have already been forgiven through Jesus Christ.

People are blinded by the enemy’s deception, but there’s hope: “Whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Corinthians 3:16) We’ve been commissioned to help remove that veil—to shine the light of truth and offer the only way to salvation: Jesus.

Pastor encouraged us not to grow weary in sowing seeds. You never know when someone’s heart is ready to receive. Pray that the goodness of the Lord—the kindness in the message—will lead them to repentance. (Romans 2:4)

People carry such guilt, and we get to tell them, Their sins are no longer being counted against them! That’s the good news people need to hear.

Pastor also introduced a brand-new “God idea”—Salvation Cards. If you were in the service, you received some! These cards are a simple but powerful way to share the gospel. Each one invites people to receive Jesus and leads them to a message from Pastor Ben—plus an opportunity to share their testimony.

This marks the beginning of a new culture at Vida Church—a church that actively fulfills the Great Commission, boldly sharing the good news everywhere we go.

Let’s go out and make disciples—because we’ve been commissioned.

This Sunday at Vida, we were challenged with a simple but powerful question: Are we merely Christians who know the Word, or are we actually participating in what we believe?

We can spend so much of our lives looking for the extraordinary that we miss the sacredness of the ordinary. We wait for the next season. The breakthrough. The opportunity. The relationship to change. The circumstances to improve. We imagine that when something finally shifts, then our real life will begin. But God is not only the God of where we're going. He is the God of right here and right now.

We are living in what many have called an epidemic of loneliness. Although we are more connected technologically than ever before, many people still lack deep, meaningful friendships. As the Church, one of our greatest distinguishing marks should be our ability to love one another. Jesus said the world would recognize His disciples by the way they love.

Healthy relationships don't happen by accident. They are built intentionally as we allow God to shape the way we love, encourage, and walk with one another. This week, Pastor Ben continued our Kingdom Relationships series by focusing on two foundational pillars: vision and faith.

Every relationship in our lives isn't meant to carry the same weight. Some are casual, others are seasonal, and a few become deep Kingdom relationships worth intentionally investing in. As Pastor Ben reminded us this Sunday, healthy Kingdom relationships don't happen by accident—they're built on self-control, responsibility, and truth.
