How to Find True Life

New Title

Unlocking Luke 17:33
through Compassion

Pastor Ben Diaz

Peace and happiness are desires at the core of our lives, but they are elusive unless rooted in Jesus Christ. Pastor unpacked this truth by reflecting on Luke 17:33 (TPT), where Jesus said, “All who are obsessed with being secure in life will lose it all—including their lives. But those who let go of their lives and surrender them to me will discover true life.”

Pastor highlighted that the spirit of religion is always asking, “Have I done enough?” This mindset is never satisfied, constantly pushing us to do more. True peace with God, however, comes when we understand our identity in Christ and recognize the power at work within us.

Pastor emphasized that true peace and happiness are found only through God's way—by surrendering our lives to Him and allowing compassion to guide our actions. Compassion is the key that unlocks the supernatural in our lives, as Jesus demonstrated throughout His ministry. Compassion was the catalyst for miracles as highlighted in Matthew 14:14: “Jesus had compassion on them and healed their sick.”

Feeling weak or inadequate? The pastor reminded us that these feelings are actually our greatest strengths! Citing 2 Corinthians 12:9, where Paul writes, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” And Philippians 4:13 says, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Pastor Ben concluded by challenging us to let compassion drive us into ministry, encouraging us to recognize the opportunities right before us. By embracing our weaknesses, we make room for God’s strength to work through us, turning even the most difficult individuals into powerful testimonies of His love.

This Sunday at Vida, we were challenged with a simple but powerful question: Are we merely Christians who know the Word, or are we actually participating in what we believe?

We can spend so much of our lives looking for the extraordinary that we miss the sacredness of the ordinary. We wait for the next season. The breakthrough. The opportunity. The relationship to change. The circumstances to improve. We imagine that when something finally shifts, then our real life will begin. But God is not only the God of where we're going. He is the God of right here and right now.

We are living in what many have called an epidemic of loneliness. Although we are more connected technologically than ever before, many people still lack deep, meaningful friendships. As the Church, one of our greatest distinguishing marks should be our ability to love one another. Jesus said the world would recognize His disciples by the way they love.

Healthy relationships don't happen by accident. They are built intentionally as we allow God to shape the way we love, encourage, and walk with one another. This week, Pastor Ben continued our Kingdom Relationships series by focusing on two foundational pillars: vision and faith.

Every relationship in our lives isn't meant to carry the same weight. Some are casual, others are seasonal, and a few become deep Kingdom relationships worth intentionally investing in. As Pastor Ben reminded us this Sunday, healthy Kingdom relationships don't happen by accident—they're built on self-control, responsibility, and truth.
