The Crucial Roles of a Father
New Title

The Calling of A Father
Pastor Ben Diaz
'And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord , choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .”'
Joshua 24:15
This Sunday, we had a very special Father's Day celebration as a church family. Vida Church is so grateful for all the amazing fathers in our community!
Right on theme, Pastor Ben shared a powerful message on the P's of fatherhood: Provider, Protector, Priest, and Prophet. Don't get us wrong, God can use powerful mothers to lead their families, but fathers have a crucial and unique role in the family because they give identity and purpose to their children; in their absence, we see families fall apart.
One of the most recognized roles of a Father is to be the provider of his household. Men are created to work hard and provide for their families, making sure there's enough to pay the bills and one day even leave an inheritance for their children's children. And right along with that, men are also the protectors of their homes.
However, one aspect of fatherhood that often gets overlooked is the spiritual role they play as the priest and prophet of their family. Oftentimes, spirituality is feminized and left to the wives and mothers, but there is such a powerful influence that comes from a father who prays for their family. Since we know that God is our perfect heavenly Father, our earthly dads get to be the physical embodiment of the heart of the Father. As the priest of their home, the Father is in charge of getting everyone to church, guiding them toward the Lord, and covering their family in prayer. As the prophet, the Father is also responsible for speaking out the heart of God over their family. Prophesy in the home doesn't have to be this big "Thus sayeth the Lord" moment; it can be as simple as telling your kids what God thinks about them.
To summarize, we cannot stress enough how much we need our dads. Without them, we know that communities fall apart, families grow distant, and children grow up without knowing their God-given identity as sons or daughters of the Most High. We love you, dads; thank you for everything!
