The God of Much More
Bayless Conley

Pastor Bayless from Cottonwood Church in California was our guest speaker this week. He began by asking us to imagine what it would look like if God intervened in your biggest concern, did the miraculous, and shifted everything in your favor. If God answered your prayer in an extraordinary way—what would that answer look like?

Regardless of what you pictured, chances are you were imagining too small. We serve the God of much more! Ephesians 3:20 reminds us that God is able to do “exceedingly, abundantly beyond all we can ask or even think.”

Using 2 Chronicles 25:6–9, Pastor Bayless shared the story of King Amaziah, who had made a poor financial decision. The man of God instructed the king not to move forward with his plan and to let the money go. Amaziah feared he had wasted what he had already spent, but the word of the Lord came: God is able to give you much more than this if you follow His way.

Bayless reassured us that no matter how much we’ve lost—if we put our trust in God, He will restore, and He will restore much more than we can imagine. He shared several powerful stories from his church members that demonstrated God’s restoration. One couple lost everything through a scam. Another man went through a divorce and lost both his family and his finances. In every case, God restored—not only meeting their needs, but giving them much more and even the desires of their hearts. God truly desires to give us good gifts! (As Pastor Ben has taught recently: what God has done once, He will do again.)

Pastor Bayless then went on to explain how to position ourselves to receive “much more.” As Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:33, when we get our priorities right and seek first the Kingdom of God, the blessings of God will overtake us.

In Matthew 6:25, Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow. He repeats it again in verses 31 and 34—so apparently, He really means it! God calls us to honor Him by giving Him first place in our lives. Pastor Bayless encouraged us to ask God personally what it looks like for us to put Him first and truly seek His Kingdom.

Many of us aren’t just worried about tomorrow—we’re worried about next year, or even the next ten years. But God invites us to pile our worries on Him, promising that He will carry the load.

Our hearts were never created to handle more stress than one day at a time. In Matthew 7:7, Jesus gives us clear instruction: Ask. And then He makes a promise—when you ask, it will be given to you—so simply trust Him to do it! Pastor Bayless shared a personal story about his young son praying—more than once—for Disney tickets… and receiving them! God loves to give good gifts to His children. When we put Him first, ask for what we need, and trust Him to keep His Word, He responds with much more.

Pastor Bayless concluded by challenging us to give our cares fully to the Lord and to imagine the “much more” response of our Father. God knows your name. His love cannot overlook you. He loves you deeply and wants to give you good gifts. Believe Him, stand in faith, and receive His better promises—like Romans 5:15: “But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.”

One of the most profound truths in Scripture is that God reveals Himself to us as Father. Many people know God as Creator. Others know Him as Savior, Provider, Healer, or King. Yet one of Jesus' primary missions on earth was to reveal the Father and invite us into a relationship with Him.

One of the greatest gifts God gives us in every season is the opportunity to know Him more deeply. Pastor Ben reminded us that every new situation we face is an invitation to discover another aspect of God's nature. When challenges arise, we can ask: "Lord, what part of Your nature do I need to come intervene in my life right now?" Scripture reveals more than 200 names and titles for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This week we explored four of those names and discovered how they point us to Jesus, how they are fulfilled in Him, and how we are now called to carry His nature into the world around us.

Do you know God personally? It's a question worth slowing down to consider. In a culture where information is abundant, it's possible to know a lot about God without actually knowing Him. We can quote Scriptures, attend church, listen to sermons, and participate in ministry activities, yet still miss the relationship God has always desired.
